MAZDA EV Charging Guide
MAZDA CX-90 Plug Type Options
In general, there are three types of charging: Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3, the latter of which is also known as DC Fast Charging. Fittingly, there are three kinds of charging connectors, too: J1772, CHAdeMO, and J3400 or NACS. The Mazda CX-90 PHEV has a J1772 connector, which means it’s compatible with Level 1 and Level 2 charging stations.
Level 1 Charging
New Mazda PHEVs are so engaging that you’ll be eager to hit the road at every opportunity, but you don’t need to do so to juice up your car — you can charge the Mazda CX-90 PHEV at home. Level 1 charging allows you to charge your Mazda PHEV with a standard 120-volt household outlet. The Mazda CX-90 PHEV comes with a portable Level 1 charging cable, allowing you to charge at any location that has a safe 120-volt outlet.
If your home is older, it’s wise to have an electrician check your outlets before you attempt to charge your PHEV in your garage or carport. Never plug your charging cord into an extension cord to charge your vehicle; doing so can overheat the wiring. It only takes the Mazda CX-90 PHEV about 6.5 hours to go from a 20 percent charge up to 80 percent capacity with a Level 1 charger, making it extremely convenient to recharge the SUV overnight.

Level 2 Charging
Instead of utilizing a 120-volt outlet, Level 2 charging involves a more powerful 240-volt outlet, which is the sort of outlet typically used to power washing machines and ovens. Level 2 chargers are often available at public charging stations, so you’ll have plenty of options available during road trips. With this type of charger, the Mazda CX-90 PHEV can jump from 20 percent to 80 percent capacity in approximately 90 minutes.
